Overview: AutoWikiBrowser (also AWB) is a semi-automated MediaWiki editor for Microsoft Windows that simplifies and speeds up tedious repetitive tasks. One of its functions is that of a browser that automatically opens up a new page when the last page is saved. It can be enabled to suggest some changes—typically formatting—that are generally meant to be incidental to the main change. Another thing it can do is find all entries that contain a string or a pattern of regular expression.

Supported operating systems: Microsoft Windows 2000, XP, Vista, 7. AutoWikiBrowser also works reasonably well under Wine on Linux but this is not officially supported.

Installation: AutoWikiBrowser is a piece of software to be installed locally on your computer, downloadable as a zip file to be extracted into a subfolder of “Program Files”, and to be launched by clicking “AutoWikiBrowser.exe”. AutoWikiBrowser is written in C# and depends on the .NET framework.

User constraints: Only users registered as AutoWikiBrowser-users are allowed to use AutoWikiBrowser. If you are not registered as an AutoWikiBrowser-user and try to login to Wiktionary from the AutoWikiBrowser, you will get a refusal message.

AutoWikiBrowser can be used together with a downloaded XML dump to create lists of entries matching a regular expression. In that case, you do not need to register as an AutoWikiBrowser-user[verify], as no connection to Wiktionary servers is needed.

Setting AutoWikiBrowser for Wiktionary can be done in the menu Options → Preferences …, in the tab Site, by setting the field Project to “wiktionary”.
